Stl PD is at it again
Last night, St Louis cops crashed into a gay bar.
No, I'm not kidding.
Supposedly, they had to swerve.
One of the owners is now facing a felony charge.
We don't yet have info on any planned protests (if you do, hit me up--I can help get word out to other queers), but please help us get word out about this.
Because not to mince words, but like hell this wasn't a targeted attack by the cops in this city. That road is absolutely quiet that time of night. Furthermore, it's *fascinating* how, with dashcam footage and bodycam footage, Stl PD can't confirm how many officers were in the cruiser when it crashed.
Furthermore, "raising one's arm" is a hell of a lot different than "attacked the cops". (And in early footage, you can see Wick trying to film after the cops put Pence--who was upstairs in their apartment when the cruiser hit the bar--in handcuffs.) I'd argue its much more likely the corrupt cops were trying to wrest control of the narrative back.
Don't let them do this.
Also, from early sources/articles, the cops demanded insurance and IDs from those inside the bar closing. Last time I looked, it is the one at fault for the accident that forks over that information--and since the building wasn't exactly at risk of moving? It's the cops at fault.
And yet.
Somehow they arrest a gay man who owns a gay bar.
Gee, nothing here stinks to high heaven.

I plan on going to STL pride. I still have an absolute FUCK TON of bracelet making supplies from Eras & Good Mythical Tour.
I am going to make bracelets to give out at pride. If you were going to get a bracelet at pride, which would you prefer?
(At this moment, I have bisexual, pansexual, gay (mlm), lesbian, inclusive rainbow, intersex, and trans bracelets made up but I plan on making at least 1-2 for as many identities as possible)
*(As a bisexual woman, I often use "fruity" to describe myself, I would be allowing people to choose their own bracelets from my stash of bracelets -- in case people do not like to identify themselves with certain words, however -- I will not be making any with slurs I cannot reclaim for obvious reasons)
Feel free to reblog this so I can get a larger sample size of the LGBT community. Cishets, please use the designated poll button for you.

~STL COPS CRASH INTO GAY BAR, ARREST ONE OF THE OWNERS~
- STL cops were apparently speeding and swerved into a gay bar (Bar:PM) at 12:30 am on Monday. Cops originally said they were trying to avoid a dog, but later footage showed no dog. Surprise, cops changed their story once that footage was out.
- 1 co-owner was upstairs (where he and his husband live), heard the cruiser smash into the building, and then went downstairs to investigate. Cops asked his ID and he refused (rightly so because wtf? Cops crashed into HIS building and they don't even ask if anyone is okay? They just immediately go to asking for ID??). He immediately got put in handcuffs for refusal to show ID. (He wasn't arrested).
- Other co-owner (married to the first co-owner) was recording and taking pics on his phone while yelling (because duh a car is inside his building/home??). Cops noticed and allegedly charged at him. Co-owner said he put his arm out in self-defense because someone who just crashed into his home is now charging at him. Cops said the co-owner struck a cop with an open hand. This co-owner is arrested, charged with a felony (assaulting an officer) and a misdemeanor, and held without bail.
- At some point, one of the co-owners said one of the cops used a homophobic slur.
What a fucking shit show. Should've had the cops tested for alcohol ASAP but of course that didn't happen. Hope the bar owners get lawyered up because this sounds like a slam dunk case against the cops. But it's STL so who knows what will happen?🫠
Here is a news story discussing how footage is apparently disproving a lot of the cops' claims.
UPDATE - Just now it seems the charges are being reduced to 2 misdemeanors instead of 1 misdemeanor and 1 felony and that the co-owner will be released. (Obviously that's still not ideal but better than what it was before.)

more pride bookstore related posts! today it's left bank books, a queer owned bookstore in st louis. they do a TON of programming and community outreach and charitable work in stl including all the usual events hosting and book clubs as well as a lot of literacy work and sponsoring schools/students in the area. they sell new and used books and you can order from them online, and naturally, they have store merch for sale. you can support them via purchases or via donations to the various projects they run via the left bank books foundation.
they also have the Literacy and Justice project, which provides free copies of a selection of banned and challenged books to anyone who requests one, no catch, no strings attached. so if you're in a place where book bans are running rampant or maybe you can't afford one, you can request a free book [it may take a moment depending on how many orders they're getting, but you'll get it :)]. (you can also donate to support this project at the linked page/s so that they will be able to provide even more free books to people who might not have access to them otherwise)
you can find them on instagram here:

you should watch/read skip to loafer!! ive noticed that you usually gravitate towards yuris and such, and althought stl's main duo is a man and a woman, theres a trans woman whos REALLY good rep and a few other characters that honestly act super gay. this ask, at its core, is just me tryna show my hyperfixation to other people so you dont have to respond or watch stl, but id still love to put it in your sight!
Hi, anon! Based on the gifsets and mangacaps that have crossed my dash, it looks really cute! Aunt Nao-chan in particular has piqued my interest. Since canonically queer characters, let alone ones who can be considered positive representation, are still few and far between in mainstream anime, I’m heartened by the inclusion of a trans lady in the cast. Alas, if I miss a show during its initial release over the course of the season, there’s no telling when I’ll actually watch it (my capricious brain has to be in gear and perfectly aligned with the movements of the cosmos for that to happen 😅), but StL is on my list!

Get to know yah Girl!!!
Introductions & Directory
Hi, my name is Bria. This is my first time using Tumblr, seriously. I am really excited to use this as my little blog/portfolio. To know a bit about me, I am from STL and am a UIUC Alum. I studied Psychology and Sociology. I really enjoy yoga, astrology, movies, and Arts&Craft like a True Virgo. My favorite creators right now are Spike Lee, Solange, and my favs of all time Nina Simone & Toni Morrison. Beyonce is Queen and she will be acknowledged as such. I am currently finishing up the book ¨Salteaters¨ by Toni Cade Bambara and am trying to get my film and photography career going. I really enjoy Twitter and absolutely despise Instagram, I am trying though. I am queer, and identify as a non-binary Black Woman- I am still working on the logistics of labels but being not straight makes me a top-tier individual. I have ADHD and am really accepting that as a piece of my identity. The way you view the world is the entirety of your identity. I am still figuring out the religion and spirituality thing but I most def am working to get back in touch with my ancestors.
I honestly think that's about it.
I hope you enjoy my posts,
Bria 😍

Inside a St. Louis Lesbian Speakeasy - Out in STL
Upon entering the sliding doors at my home-away-from-home, you’ll first notice the smell. The vetting process, when you’re verbally given directions to this clandestine spot and finally understand where you’re going, probably already filled you with apprehension and anticipation, and those feelings return now as you realize you’re breathing in the acrid air of your ancestors. You know you’re not on the right floor, but you don’t dare try to operate the ancient elevator, with its levers and contraptions you’ve only ever seen in black-and-white movies. So instead, you take the stairs, which were clearly built for smaller people from a different time. You feel claustrophobic as you make your way up them, carefully watching your feet as they navigate each abnormally distanced step. “Where are we going exactly, and how unsafe am I?” you think. Something all queer Americans are wondering right now, but for you, that question is much more tangible as a masked and robed woman leads you down winding halls that you’ll never be able to find your way out of without help.
You pass room after room, wondering what’s going on behind those doors. Finally, you’re brought before a door adorned with welcoming colors, and you know queer people are in there. A warm cinnamon-cake candle welcomes you into the small space. There’s vintage lesbian porn being projected on a wall, and Sylvester’s “I Need Somebody to Love Tonight” is playing on a sound system. You are in a lesbian speakeasy and dungeon. You are filled with excitement and confusion but also completely disoriented. Here, you can have a beer or glass of wine with like-minded folks, even set your glass down and look away, not having to worry about someone trying to spike your drink. Clothing is optional, though most will choose to stay clothed and get into deep conversations at the bar. It was next to impossible to open up and sustain spaces for LGBTQ people before these fascist Republicans started their latest attacks on us. It stands to reason that given the current climate our community would have underground and illegal watering holes and salons. And while it may seem immature to some to hold space for after-hours activities away from the prying eyes of Uncle Sam, I’m grateful for the folks who are risking much to hold and keep these spaces secret and sacred.
It will be in these dark rooms that multigenerational activists will make plans to get abortion pills across the border to Americans in trouble. It will be in these hallways where T and HRT will swap palms, eventually saving the lives of trans folks. It will be in these heavily vetted shared spaces where the new “Jane” groups will connect pregnant people with doctors willing to perform once-and-now-again illegal abortions to save their lives.
And it will be in my home-away-from-home where information on how to have safe queer sex, support sex workers and find health care for our community will be learned and shared. It will not be our fault if our identities are suddenly deemed illicit by the state. But let’s have a little bit of fun with it if they are. I cannot think of a better way to fight the rise of fascism than selling untaxed booze to queer folks congregating in shared spaces to make merry and plan treason. After all, our descent into fascism doesn’t have to be so god damned basic. Be gay, do crimes and have a good time while you do it. Out in STL took over the Riverfront Times for this month’s pride issue.

Damn this somehow blew up a whole-ass week after I posted it.
And it's been cool seeing this resonate with many.
Some comments and questions in the tags did stand out and are worth addressing.
First off, this is just KCMO. So no similar action was issued on the KS side. In fact action is isn't needed on the KS as a similar health-care ban was vetoed and wasn't able to cross a threshold to override that veto. Which had been heartening, especially considering how blatantly gerrymandered the state is (eg how they tried and failed to oust Sharice Davids). But it speaks to how the politics of JoCo have shifted significantly.
EDIT: Action is definitely needed in KS metros considering the sweeping new measures just passed as of the end of May.
And secondly, I have indeed found it interesting that STL hasn't done anything similar. Neither has Columbia (which is arguably proportionately the most progressive city in this state; granted it doesn't really have burbs to function as a buffer against the rest of the region). And I have noticed that while STL has been at the forefront for Black activism, KC has been louder for queer activism. One did raise the point that it probably doesn’t help that STL less unified; while Greater STL is bigger than KC metro, STL itself is smaller and surrounded by a ton of "cities" in the county (and St. Charles Co ain't exactly help).
KC continues to make me proud.
Simplified explaination: the city gov has refused to comply with any gender affirming care ban, like the one the MO state government is on track to pass.
I will not be surprised if Jeff City tries to nullify or overturn this. Or simply penalize the metro in other ways.
But even if that happens... even if they succeed... the simple fact that this passed by a near-unanimous vote sends a clear message.
It sends a message to non-cis residents that the city is on their side.
And it sends a message to the rest of the nation that resistance is still alive in red states.

Today in transphobic legislation: The Missouri Attorney General issued an emergency rule that basically bans gender-affirming care for trans adults.
This emergency rule would force THREE /DOCUMENTED/ YEARS of gender dysphoria and 18 months of therapy before being able to access gender-affirming care.
It also bans adults with autism or depression from receiving gender affirming care.
If you or someone you know are in or around Missouri, consider checking out SQSH (St Louis Queer+ Support Helpline)
Although they are based in STL, they will accept calls from anywhere and are truly amazing.
RN we are in an absolute free fall of LGBTQAI+ rights and freedoms in the US. And it is not going to stop unless we push back.
Support your community and speak up for each other.
Demand justice. Demand equality. Keep each other in your hearts and persevere.
